Every year, Toitoi - Hawke's Bay Arts & Events Centre hosts Creative Leaders - an open access programme for Hawke's Bay young people aged 15-25 who want to pursue a career in the arts industry.
Our aim is to nurture the next generation of arts practitioners and leaders, through a mixture of work experiences, industry workshops, artist talks and meetings, and fun social events. The Creative Leaders programme is completely free of charge and is open to any youth from across Hawke's Bay.
Through our partnerships, Creative Leaders also have access to work alongside and learn from top industry practitioners and leaders. Partnerships include Harcourts Hawke's Bay Arts Festival, Takitimu Performing Arts School, Kahurangi Māori Dance Company and Eastern Institute of Technology.
Applications for the 2022 Creative Leaders programme at Toitoi have now closed.

Are you passionate about performing arts? Do you want to pursue a career in arts industry but don’t know where to start? Do you want a backstage pass to find out how a live venue works?
Then join us and become a Creative Leader! If you are aged between 15 and 25, based in Hawke’s Bay and want to join the industry, please apply. As a Creative Leader you will be given access to Toitoi - Hawke's Bay Arts & Events Centre and its many partners to explore tailored opportunities to develop your skills and set you in motion towards a career in the arts.
Our Creative Leaders programme includes work experience, workshops, meeting artists and social events. You will see and create performances and contribute to community events throughout Hawke's Bay. You may also have a mentor assigned to you.
As a Creative Leader we will work alongside you to develop your skills in key areas of interest. If you wish to explore specific performing arts-based roles, we will work with you in those areas.
We offer a tailored Gateway programme, with Takitimu Performing Arts School, so you can obtain Unit Standards and/or NCEA credits in identified areas.
This year, we offer lighting, sound and production papers (Levels 1-3) in Entertainment & Event Technologies. You will work alongside Toitoi technicians to complete requirements.
We also offer set drama credits. Working with a director, you will contribute ideas, develop your performance and apply learned skills. Toitoi offers NCEA credits across Levels 1-3 for students at schools which do not offer drama.
