Te Whawhewhawhe & Te Marama
Join Te Marama on a journey of self-discovery through Aotearoa's beautiful native bush. As she explores our magnificent landscape, she meets different elements of her own personality - including Te Whawhewhawhe (the gossip), Te Maminga (the trickster) and Haupukeri (the egocentric).
With Te Whawhewhawhe as her overbearing protector, Te Marama is challenged by each new character and how to deal with them. After working themselves into a frazzled state of mind, Rongomau (the peaceful one) encourages Te Marama to work back through her struggles and teaches her ways to deal with her anxieties.
In both english and te reo, this new play, written by beloved local playwright and story-teller, Mary Kippenberger, shows tamariki how to explore and deal with their emotions, framed by waiata and a moving soundscape of native wildlife.
Developed as a taonga (gift) to our community, from Toitoi and Kahurangi Maori Dance Company, this show will tour 29 schools across Hawke's Bay in May. It is presented at Toitoi's Opera House for the wider community to enjoy.
Suitable for all ages, koha entry. Nau mai, haere mai ki a koutou! Come along, everyone!
